Cody's official deadlift-specific cycle: three deadlift sessions a week built into their own split, four 3-week blocks of conventional → deficit → paused → banded, progressing by RM attempts + AMRAP sets (off-the-floor speed line).

GZCL Deadlift Wave Forms is a 12-week deadlift specialization block from the GZCL Free Compendium. It doesn't replace your training — it slots three deadlift sessions a week into whatever 4-day split you're already running. The 12 weeks form four 3-week blocks, each keyed to a different pull variation: standard, 2" deficit, paused, and banded. Every block opens with a rep-max attempt (3RM in week 1, 2RM in week 4, 1RM in week 7, banded 1RM in week 10) that resets the block's working percentages, then rides a short ascending wave for its remaining sessions. This edition follows the source table's "speed off the floor" progression line, not the alternate lockout-focused variant.
Intermediate-to-advanced lifters with a stalled deadlift who can recover from pulling heavy three times a week. Since it only touches the deadlift, pair it with an upper-body-focused program on your other days.
Three weekly sessions map onto slots in your split — your own squat/bench day isn't touched:
The rotation across blocks:
Percentages run off your Training Max (roughly an everyday, no-belt 2RM) — enter that as your app 1RM. Each block-opening RM attempt is a calibration set, not a max-out: leave 10-20 lb in reserve. Everything else is a fixed percentage of it, and most sessions close on a "+" set — an AMRAP-style top set left 1-2 reps short.
Heavy Day climbs within each block: 80→85→90% (Block 1), 82.5→87.5→92.5% (Block 2), 85→90→95% (Block 3; week 9 tops out at 95% before a reduced closing wave back to 87.5%), 90→93→96% (Block 4). Banded loads are bar-plus-band; tension stays roughly 30% of the top weight and only the bar increases across a block — no bands, sub a standard deadlift pulled with deliberate acceleration off the floor. Deficit height is 2" early on, rising to 3" once it returns on T2 days in weeks 7-9. Week 12 tapers sharply into a retest; rest 5+ days after before testing a true 1RM.
Fit the three sessions into your split's Day 1, Day 3, and Day 4. Take each block's opening RM attempt seriously but conservatively — it sets every percentage for the next three weeks. Log your "+" set reps; if you keep blowing past target, tighten the reserve next time.
What's a Training Max here? Your everyday, no-belt 2RM estimate — not a hype-day 1RM. Overestimating it makes the block too heavy.
Do I need bands for the banded weeks? No — sub a standard deadlift pulled with active acceleration off the floor.
What if I miss the reps on an RM attempt? It's a calibration set, not a max-out. Stop with 10-20 lb in reserve; that weight sets the block.
Does this cover squats and bench too? No, it's deadlift-only — run your own programming for the rest of your split.
What does the "+" on a set mean? An AMRAP-style top set: push it, but stop 1-2 reps short of true failure.
