Day 1
Day 1 (8-week cycle)
- Barbell Conventional Deadlift1 × 30 · 25% e1RMAll percentages are based on the "daily 1RM" - a conservative single you could easily do on any day, not a true max. There is only one working set per day.
Cody's official single-lift daily volume accumulation plan: one deadlift set a day, with seven "daily intensities" each cycling through rep progression, from 25%×30 reps up to heavy doubles at 85%.

Maelstrom is a single-lift, high-frequency volume protocol from the GZCL Free Compendium: pick one main lift (deadlift by original design, any barbell lift works) and train it once a day, every day. Each of the seven "training days" runs its own cycle at its own percentage of a daily 1RM — light days climb reps fast, heavy days climb reps slowly — ending with a small load bump before restarting at the cycle's starting rep count. This entry captures the first 8 weeks as a representative block.
Intermediate-to-advanced lifters looking to break a plateau through sheer daily exposure rather than heavier singles — not a beginner template. Daily one-set training at high rep counts demands solid technique and real work capacity. If training seven days a week isn't realistic, spread the same 7 day-types across a longer week; the structure holds.
Every session is one lift, one work set — no warm-ups or accessories built into the prescription. The seven day-types (cycle length in parens):
Days 2-7 finish their cycles inside this 8-week window and restart at least once — load ticks up, reps drop back to the cycle's starting count, and each restart week is flagged in that day's set notes.
Every percentage is anchored to a "daily 1RM" — a comfortable, conservative single you could hit on any given day, well short of a tested max. Use that as your training max here, not your all-time best. Within a cycle the load never moves; only reps climb week to week. Progression happens only at resets: Day 7 +1%/2wk, Day 6 +2%/3wk, Day 5 +3.5%/4wk, Day 4 +5%/5wk, Day 3 +6.5%/6wk, Day 2 +8%/7wk, and Day 1 (no reset in this window) is built for an even larger jump every 8 weeks. Small plates help for the narrower Day 5-7 steps.
Train daily as written, or stretch the same 7 day-types across more calendar days if you need rest between sessions. The prescribed rep count is the entire session: one set, taken as written, not a warm-up. Grip and breathing pace are usually the limiting factor on the high-rep light days (Day 1 reaches 100 reps by the end of this block) — plan set rhythm beforehand, and use straps or an alternating grip once grip, not the target muscles, becomes the bottleneck.
Do I have to use the deadlift? No — Maelstrom was designed around the deadlift, but the single-lift structure works for any barbell main lift. Swap in your chosen exercise and set a daily 1RM for it.
What's a "daily 1RM" and why not my tested max? It's a conservative single you could hit on a rough day. Testing this number seven days a week means a true 1RM would make the early high-rep days unmanageable and compound load too aggressively.
Is any warm-up or accessory work included? No — as captured here, each day is exactly one work set for the target lift. Warming up and accessory work are left to you.
What happens after week 8? This entry stops at 8 weeks as a representative block. Days 2-7 have already reset at least once by then; Day 1 completes its first full 8-week cycle here and would restart with a larger jump if continued.
